Building a Shared Movement for Youth Transit Across Canada

Across Canada, municipalities, school boards, and community groups are taking bold steps to make public transit more accessible for youth through fare-free policies, engagement programs, and hands-on training. Each initiative is unique, yet the goal is shared: to help young people access opportunity, independence, and connection through transit, while at the same time meeting climate targets by reducing emissions.

Our mission is to aggregate, support, and amplify the incredible work happening from coast to coast. Every community that has implemented or explored youth-focused transit programs, whether through a pilot or a permanent policy, has valuable knowledge to offer. From council meeting minutes and staff reports to academic studies, media stories, and even YouTube recordings of public discussions, each piece of information contributes to a national picture of progress and possibility.

The Get on the Bus Resource Library was created to bring all this together. It’s a living, growing archive designed to make it easier for decision-makers, advocates, educators, and community members to find what they need, quickly and in one place. Whether you’re a municipal staff person tasked with writing a report for council, an advocate preparing to speak at a meeting, or a researcher exploring the impacts of youth transit access, this collection is built to help you save time and strengthen your case.

We know that every community faces its own pressures and priorities. However, the evidence is clear: investing in the nexus between youth and transit pays dividends for families, the environment, and the future of public transportation. When we remove barriers, we create riders for life.

If you see something missing from our Resource Library, we’d love to hear from you. Send us your local reports, council videos, or studies so we can share them with others. Together, we can continue to build a network of knowledge that helps communities make informed and confident decisions about youth transit.
