What is Next Stop: Change?
Next Stop: Change is a national, youth-led advocacy program supported by Get on the Bus and Small Change Fund. Our goal is simple: to highlight youth-led change and help other young people learn from it across Canada.
The program was shaped by lived experience. Growing up in Regina, Saskatchewan, Program Coordinator Sophia Young needed good public transit and saw firsthand how youth voices were missing from local decision-making. While advocating for fare-free youth transit, she spent months searching for guidance on how to build a campaign, engage decision-makers, and turn lived experience into action. With support from experienced advocates, Sophia addressed City Council and led a 14-month effort that engaged more than 1,500 community members and contributed to Regina making transit free for youth under 13, providing equitable transportation for 36,000 youth. While the outcome was significant, the process revealed a larger challenge: youth who want to create change often have no clear place to learn how.
